INTERVIEW WITH THE COVER DESIGNER:

Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Loreana Rushe and I’m an Artist and Photographer. I work as a photographer for State and AU Magazine and do the odd bit of freelancing for Newspapers and various other publications. I designed the album and single covers for Fight Like Apes, and I’m currently working on artwork and photography for a few bands in Ireland. I also run a clubnight called PANDAmonium! in Spy on South William street on Fridays.

Tell us a little more about the cover?

It’s a cloud monster on top of the Central Bank! My idea was to fuse my influences with the every day life view of Dublin but with vivid colours. The Central Bank happens to be my favourite building in the city centre, it’s very unusual looking and the structure reminds me of a Japanese temple. I guess you could say it’s a comment on the current state of the economy, but Dublin is going through a creative period at the moment with people having more time on their hands.

Japan is a big influence in your work?

It sure is! I have a ridiculous obsession with Japan. I am heavily influenced by Manga and Anime, also with traditional Japanese folklore and Asian culture in general. Kaiju (monsters) and Yōkai (spirits) play a huge part in the research and development of my ideas. Hayao Miyazaki, Satoshi Kon and Katsuhiro Otomo films are a big influence as I love how they mix surreal images and rearrange the mundane and boring into something otherworldly and magical in their animes.

Where can we see more of your work?

You can check out my website and my blog which is regularly updated with photos, news and ramblings.
