2011: A Retrospective Guide!

•January 18, 2012 • 2 Comments

Ok so I’m a little bit late with my retrospective of 2011, but that’s because I’ve been enjoying my Christmas holidays a little too much! So below are a selection of some of my many highlights from the year, some I can’t even believe happened! 2011 was a fantastic year for me and I’d like to say thank you to everyone who helped me out and supported me, bought any of my work and to the lovely people I did shoots with. I appreciate it so much, as always!

A great start to the year was the news that Sargent House were using my Adebisi Shank artwork for their t-shirts

Photography I shot for The Former Soviet Republic for his album cover

In March I won the award for Best Photography at the Digital Socket Awards. Mega thanks again to the bloggers who voted for me, it seriously means a lot!

I created this image of Dylan Haskins based on his political campaign image. It was originally commissioned as artwork for his campaign fundraising gig with Fight Like Apes headlining so I incorporated ideas from the art I did for them into this!

My photos of Squarehead and Sacred Animals were featured in State.ie ‘s Faces of 2011

HMV used my photo of Adebisi Shank for their ‘My Inspiration’ series of posters

I did this painting of Bobby from No Monster Club/Grand Pocket Orchestra

I created this poster for Popical Island for their May Popicalia gig. It’s based on the Owl and Pussycat and Hokusai’s wave.

Andrew North got my Fight Like Apes album artwork tattooed on his arm!

I was commissioned by Vodafone to create artwork based on Paul Simon’s gig in the marquee in Cork. My drawing was filmed in time lapse and can be viewed here:

Ryan Penagos, the editorial director of Marvel.com featured my Wolverine Sloth drawing here on his blog agentmlovestacos.com

I was asked to give a talk on Photography at Photofestival Ireland along with Hugh McCabe and Naomi McArdle.

Drawings of Matt Hedigan and Lisa O’Grady I created for my exhibition.

On August 4th I had my first ever solo exhibition of my artwork. Major thanks to Fund:it for helping raise nearly E1000 towards the costs of putting it on and huge thanks to everyone for contributing, attending, and purchasing artwork! I had such an amazing night!

My Flaming Lips photograph from Forbidden Fruit Festival in June was exhibited at both the Hard Working Class Heroes (HWCH) and State.ie Photography Exhibitions in October.

My favourite photoshoot of the year was with Richie Egan of Jape for AU Magazine!

Delorentos featured my ‘International Dreamstag’ artwork in their Little Sparks Magazine that came free with their EP. You can see it at  0:33 in the video below!

My Fight Like Apes artwork was featured on the cover of Tony Clayton-Lea’s new book

My friend Hollie turned 21 over the weekend so I made this painting of her as a present (she dressed up as Bloody Mary for Halloween!) I’ve made her birthday cards for the last few years so thought I’d make an extra bit of effort since turning 21 is a bit of a big deal! :D

SoLo- An exhibition by Loreana Rushe

I successfully raised E970 (194%) towards my exhibition on 4th August in R.A.G.E through Fund:It. Absolutely delighted!I had initially asked for E500 but I unbelievably exceeded my target with E710 within 3 hours of going live! A huge heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed towards this, your support means the world to me. Also a massive thanks to Martin McNicholl and everyone at Fund:It for choosing my project. The money will cover getting artwork framed, buying materials for printing and painting, an exhibition booklet designed and printed and most importantly cocktails and sweets for the launch night.

Wolverine Sloth

•June 28, 2011 • 1 Comment

Here’s my drawing of a Sloth as Wolverine from X-Men. I had this idea the other night when I was researching sloths for some new paintings. I noticed how their long claws reminded me of Wolverine’s metal claws so I thought it would be funny to draw this. Ryan Penagos, the editorial director of Marvel.com featured my drawing here on agentmlovestacos.com which was fucking amazing!!!! :D

Vodafone Collective- Paul Simon

•June 25, 2011 • Leave a Comment

Last Tuesday I drove down to Cork to see the legendary Paul Simon. I was commissioned by Vodafone to create a piece of art based on my experience at the gig. I worked in my own little bear monster and did him as Paul Simon, and I gave his guitar a little moustache and called it Julio. I dunno where that idea came from, but I just went with it and drew it! Haha. The wonderful lads at Thinkhouse filmed the entire process above and had it edited and up on youtube the following day so fair play to them for their patience and hard work.
